I Found A “Hidden Sugar Monster” In My Child’s Diet. Here’s How I Got Rid Of It.

October 24, 2023

If my kid could eat chocolate cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner… he sure as heck would. What kid wouldn’t?!

That’s why, as a responsible parent, I do everything I can to make sure my child has a balanced diet – plenty of fiber, protein, healthy carbs and, of course, vitamins.

But lately, I feel like I’ve been at war… and the enemy is hiding around every corner. Its name? SUGAR.

I try to make sure my little one eats as little added sugar as possible – not just because of the physical health risks (like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease), but also because sugar consumption has been linked to decreased academic performance in youth (up to 15%!).¹

That’s why I check labels carefully… but even that has become a challenge. Food manufacturers know we’re (rightfully) worried about sugar, but they also know it sells… so they simply hide it in plain sight.

Sugar: The monster hiding in plain sight (and our children’s vitamins)

These days, sugar hides under sneaky names like Dextrose, Fructose, Glucose and more. Heck, I’ve even noticed “organic sugar” becoming popular… but that’s yet another marketing ploy. It’s still the same exact unhealthy substance with a fancy name.

Eventually, I managed to memorize most of them… and I felt confident that our house was as “sugar-free” as possible.

But then my sister visited with her kids. She’s the one who convinced me to start battling sugar in our home, so I was happy to have her “review my work”.

Overall she was pleased… but she DID find one “hidden sugar monster” that shocked me…

Our “organic” kids VITAMINS – which we bought from the local health food store – were LOADED WITH SUGAR!

And I’m talking loaded… our vitamins had the same amount of sugar as a slice of chocolate cake. (No wonder my son didn’t push the issue – he was getting his cake all along.)

I couldn’t believe it. The funny thing was, my sister went right to those vitamins. She knew she’d find some sugar in our children’s vitamins… because they’re ALL filled with sugar.

This is what 5 grams of sugar looks like (and what’s in just one serving of most kids vitamins (even the “healthy” ones!)

At least, that’s what I thought. But then my sister told me about a completely new option called Hiya. As of this writing, it’s the only 100% sugar-free vitamin for children we could find. Even better, it uses a secret ingredient that children mistake for sugar – so kids don’t even notice the difference!

My sister let my children try them on the spot, and they absolutely loved them… and to be honest, so did I… they’re delicious!

What Are Hiya Vitamins?

Hiya vitamins are the world’s most complete 100% sugar-free vitamins for kids. Your child takes them like any other vitamin (they’re chewable). Yet no matter the age, they’ll need just one a day.

They’re made with 12 organic fruits and vegetables, then sweetened with monk fruit – which is a superfruit with a fantastic taste kids love. But more importantly, it avoids any horrible issues linked to added sugar.

For example, did you know that typical sugar replaces essential nutrients within the body? It’s hardest on Vitamins A, C, B-12 and Calcium – which are some of the most important vitamins for growing children.² (Kind of defeats the point of taking vitamins in the first place, doesn’t it?)

And yet, for some reason, even the “healthiest” vitamins you’ll find at the store are packed with sugar:

But now, thanks to Hiya and the miracle of monk fruit, our kids can have their “cake” – and eat it too!

What’s In Hiya?

Hiya takes 12 organic fruits and vegetables – fresh from the farm – and blends them into one super-powered chewable to fill in common nutritional gaps based on modern guidelines… not outdated junk.

Each Hiya is supercharged with 15 essential vitamins, each carefully chosen to support your child during their critical years of development… and nothing else.

These essential vitamins offer a world of essential benefits for your child since many of these vitamins are known to provide support, including:

  • Immunity (from Vitamins A, C, D, & E, Zinc)*
  • Eyes (Vitamin A & E, Riboflavin)*
  • Recovery from infections & cuts (Zinc)*
  • Bone development (Vitamin D & Calcium)*
  • Concentration, sleep & mood (Vitamins B1, B5 & B12, Selenium)*
  • Healthy heart (Vitamin E)*
  • Energy & cellular growth (Riboflavin, Folate, Vitamin B7)*
  • Healthy skin (Vitamin B7)*
  • Thyroid function (Iodine)*
  • Inflammation (Selenium, Manganese)*
  • Metabolism (Manganese)*

These are all the types of vitamins you’d find sourced from healthy stuff like beets, apples, and blueberries… not processed cane sugar and other gummy junk.

Of course, what’s NOT inside is almost as important as what’s inside. In this case, they didn’t just remove the sugar… Hiya is also free from unnecessary preservatives, dyes, and gummy junk. It’s got what our kids need and nothing else!

Here’s a picture I took of the label:

Sounds great… but will my kids actually eat them?!

I know, I know – in a perfect world, our children would request spinach and kale or use their lunch money on, you know, lunch (instead of candy).

But we live in a world where parents often have to trick their kids into eating healthy. And thankfully, the folks at Hiya have clearly mastered this trick.

It’s all thanks to monk fruit – the delicious, fruity “sugar replacement” (not substitute) that gives each vitamin a fresh and delicious flavor. It tastes natural like the ingredients inside.

You probably won’t truly believe it until you see the look in your kids’ eyes after trying their first vitamin but this sweet video might give you a hint:

Where Can I Find Hiya?

Right now, Hiya is ONLY available online – which is actually super convenient. Not only do you avoid visiting a crowded grocery store, but you can also make sure your children never miss their vitamin intake. Hiya is delivered conveniently on a pediatrician recommended schedule

When you first order, Hiya is delivered with a refillable glass bottle that comes with stickers your younger kids can decorate it with (how adorable!)

Every month thereafter you’re sent an eco-friendly refill without ever having to run out (it saves me tons of time and I like that I’m not throwing away a new plastic bottle every few weeks).

You can adjust your delivery date or cancel anytime — there’s zero commitment. And the fact that I can order once and trust that Hiya will arrive on time is so useful – especially now when it’s critical to keep our children’s immune systems strong.

After years of fighting the sugar war, I’m glad to have won a huge victory thanks to Hiya. My kids actually enjoy Hiya more than their old, sugar vitamins – they taste fresh, not processed and refined.

Bottom line, I love Hiya – and so do my kids. If you’re conscious about sugar and giving your kids the very best, you’ll love them too!
